Northern Kings - Syracuse Carrier Dome Pre-Nationals 2011 Champions

The Northern Kings, coached by Kevin Jeffers & Dwayne Sybbliss, went 6-0 to win the Syracuse Carrier Dome Pre-Nationals this past weekend.

The Northern Kings defeated Rockland Rockets, Buffalo Dragons, and Seton Saints in Pool play. In the Quarters they defeated YNBA Avengers from York Region. And defeated East Coast Hawks (Brewster, NY) in the semi-finals.

In the finals, the Northern Kings were matched-up against The Flame from Bronx, NY. Despite great inside presence and clutch outside shooting from the Flame, the Kings held a 26-23 lead at half-time. In the second half, the Kings built a 9 point lead, however, the Flame went on run and were able to cut the Kings lead to 2 points. Then Denzel Lynch-Blair (Jarvis) knocked down 3 consecutive 3-pointers, and the Kings never looked back, on route to 54-40 championship victory. Top scores for the Northern Kings were Denzel Lynch-Blair with 23 points and Ben Bakazoo with 17 points.

Player notes:
Play making by the young PG Emmanuel Owootoah (Martingrove) was raved about by spectators, referees and coaches. Denzel's leadership came through late. Sharp shooting by Brodie Hill (YAACE Prep), Trevor Thompson (Nelson), Juwon Grannum (St. Joan of Arc) and Ben Bakazoo (Kitchener) was solid throughout the tournament. Inside presence from Matthew Atewe (Newbirth Christian Academy, GA) on the defensive side was excellent. Defending and scoring came from Tyler Stone (Eastern Commerce). Nathaniel Nelson (St. Augustine) was dominating and consistent.
