| The Advantage Titans continued their winning ways as they entered the December 12/13 Scarborough Basketball Bantam Tournament (Gold Division), winning their second tournament in as many tries. Throughout the tournament Coach Smalling stressed to the team to play suffocating defense, and so they did. In their first game against the Burlington Skyhawks, the Titans played outstanding basketball. It was truly a team effort, as the Titans beat the Skyhawks 66 to 28. They were led by Mathew Smalling who scored 18 points and Justice Johnson, scoring 10 points. Khaleel Hamilton, Kyrel Eccleston and Elijah Shillingford caused several turnovers, as the Titans guards proved to be too much for their opponents to handle. In the next game, Jarel Barnett led the charge as the Titans played Toronto Triple Threat (2). The Titans won the game by a final score of 65 to 38. Jarel scored 12 points from the perimeter, followed by Khaleel Hamilton, scoring 10 points. The Advantage Titans then moved on to play the host team, Scarborough # 2, and the results were the same. The Scarborough #2 team proved to be no match for the Advantage Titans, as the Titans continued to play sound defense, winning 82 to 53. Mathew Smalling scored a game high 17 points and Kyrel Eccleston scored 12 points, followed by Raishon Waldron who scored 10 points for the undefeated Titans. The outside shooting of Christopher Smalling, Jewell Willock and the tight defense of Jaylen Rosteing and Jordan Smalling played havoc on their opponents. In the semi-final game, the Titans were matched up against the Kanata Cavaliers. The athletic play of Justice Johnson, Elijah Shillingford and Mathew Smalling was just too much to handle for the Cavs. In this game Justice Johnson scored a team high 24 points, followed by Elijah Shillingford scoring 14 points, while dishing out several spectacular passes, leading to easy baskets by Mathew Smalling, Jewel Willock and Jarel Barnett. The Advantage Titans then moved on to play the Hamilton Wildcats in the final. Coach Chris, Devon and Kelvin had the team well prepared, emphasizing key defensive strategies and sharing the basketball. The Titans then went on to beat a tough Hamilton team 54 to 31. The Titans defensive play and ability to capitalize on turnovers was the difference, as the Titans went on to win their second tournament of the season. Mathew Smalling was awarded game MVP as he led the way scoring a game high of 24 points. The Advantage Titans are coached by Chris Smalling, Devon Smalling and Kelvin Chong. |
