On and Off the Court, YAAACE continues to Win!
Its been a long hard fought journey for the YAAACE program, but with a strong foundation and a even stronger mission, the YAAACE organization has become one of the top elite programs in the OBA. This year they have set higher goals on the road to the Provincials, Gold all the way through in the 2009-10 season! After stellar performances last year at almost every age level (Atom boys U11-Bronze, Major Atom U12-Gold, Bantam U13-Silver, D2 Major Bantam U14-Bronze, Midget U15-Gold and Juvenile U17-Bronze) the proof is in the pudding so to speak! But the success on the court is just a corner of the entire blocks YAAACE is trying to cover. This organization's mission is to develop youth culturally, academically and socially to empower the youth for tomorrow! Although focusing mainly with the Jane & Finch community, the ideas of the two co-founders Devon Thompson and Devon Jones, has seem to have a domino effect on other communities bringing youths from areas across the city. With a strong tutoring program, The Boys 2 Men project and a solid partnership with the Toronto District School Board and Seneca College at York University, students have the ability to excel in programs such as they're new web casting initiative and more.

Back to the hardwood, its all about the mission, and this year the focus is to maintain that elite status and continue developing future stars on and off the court. This years U14 Major Bantam squad are the #1 ranked squad by the Hooptown/KTG rankings. Coach Thompson has done phenomenal job with this group and has a mission that doesn't see a silver lining like last season. Pure Gold in London. With some of the top players for this age group in 6'1 Kemar McKnight, 6'2 Eric Rwahwire and sharp shooter Junior Amposah and Gabriel Owusu. The 'YAAACE Manz' as they liked to be called have a very nice supporting cast to go along with the for-mentioned.

The mission is clear for YAAACE, on and off the court, and that's to breed success and continue building that foundation!

Brampton Warriors Victorious in Kanata
The major bantam season has begun and one of the provinces top teams decided to hit the road to the Capital Region to jump start they're season! Sending both there #1 and #2 teams to Kanata, the Brampton Warriors only had one thing on there mind, to show why, they are a force to be reckoned with! Brampton Warriors #1 came home victorious as the the champs of the Kanata Tournament this past weekend. The #2 ranked team in our Pre Season Top 10 managed to breeze through all 5 games taking them to the championship game to face off with one of the Capital regions stronger teams, Glouchester Wolverines. The game wasn't as easy as the first time they faced, earlier in the round robin, as the Wolverines battled the Warriors only to suffer a 12 point loss in the finale! Brampton#1 head coach Mark Poyser was proud of his squads performance but tipped his hats off to the Glouchester team for a great final game. The whole team played well throughout the tourney and came back from the four hour journey content with some strong wins under they're belt. Jaylen Poyser, who was exceptional in every game was voted MVP in Kanata, but coach praised the play of all his stars! The #2 team also faired well, coming up a bit short, losing to Glouchester in the semi's in a close one. Coach Leon Archer(B-Town2) sees his team improving and this trip showed that. All and all is was a great getaway for the Brampton organization and a good warm up to start the OBA season!

Durham City Bulldogs 2, Dominate Montreal Classic!
In probably the first recognizable tournament at the Major Bantam level, before the OBA season begins, the Montreal Classic took place this past weekend. The tourney showcased one of the GTA's up and coming squads, Durham City Bulldogs 2 who won the Classic handily defeating Montreal's Park Ex 55-35. Dominating throughout the tournament, defeating every team by 25+, it was obviously not as competitive as expected. Disappointed that the tournament was actually mixed with 96 and 97 aged teams, Coach Andrew Palmer of the Bulldogs made the best of the experience. "It was a great learning experience for the kids to realize the importance of how Canada has two languages it speaks and there are benefits to that!" coach stated. The kids still competed and showed that Ontario Basketball is still the premier province when it comes to hoops! 6'2 lanky center, Sheldon Fraser and 6'0 forward Jahidi Tate dominated in the paint and were monsters defensively, blocking everything in sight and averaging about 7 rebounds each per game. The dynamic duo of guard/forwards Trevor Baptiste and Spencer Thomas, lead the way offensively for DCB2 averaging about 15 points a game a piece. Along with the steady point guard play of 5'10 Obi Okolie, the Bulldogs blew the competition out of the water and are on they're way to a great start in preparation for a strong year ahead. This boys are most definitely going to be a team to reckon with this OBA season!
