Major Bantam Boys Pre-Season Top 10 Rankings
(Released December 2, 2009)
#1 - Y.A.A.A.C.E.
Last years Silver Medalist are looking no further than Gold this season! They're is no doubt this deep and talented squad is ready to claim that top spot this year. Over the summer they battled it out with the Brampton Warriors, taking it to the wire in every game. They have added some key components in 6'2 lanky forward, Eric Rhawire, who came over this summer from Triple Threat. His length and athleticism was a blessing for this already talented team. With arguably one of the best players in the province in 6'2 forward Kamar McKnight, this frontcourt will be very dominant on both ends of the floor. McKnight, can easily take over a game and is a force to be reckoned with along with probably the most talented player of the bunch, guard Gabriel Osuwu(still a question mark, however). Coach Devon Thompson, another top coach, will use his discipline tactics to make this squad work intensely all game long. With a strong guard rotation in sharp shooter 5'10 Junior Amposah, steady point guard Reshawn'Kobe'Chambers , newly acquired elite guards Reece Brooks from the bronze medal Brampton Warriors and Dejuan Martin from OBA Champs, G-Squad. It will be very hard to see them not contending for the OBA Title. They go deep on the bench as well, with lots of talent so they are lacking in nothing this season.
#2 - Brampton Warriors #1
This year will be very competitive but this squad has always proven to be a top 3 team every year. This past summer proved that again as the Warriors managed to prevail in every major tourney. Coach Mark Poyser, one of the best coaches this age group has to offer, has managed to do this with basically the same group of kids he's had for years. They are strong at almost every position but the key to this teams success seems to be that, they are very fundamentally sound and hurt teams with there solid defensive schemes. All though they lost a key component in guard Reece, who over the summer, took his game over to powerhouse YAAACE. They still however, have the glue to keep them competing for the Gold, for this upcoming season. Key players in the frontcourt, 6'1 Rayshane Case and 5'10 Ty Nelson-Stewart provide size and versatility. These two players are tenacious on both ends of the floor and are not your average bigs, both being premier players at this age level! With the stellar and improving play of sniper Matt Trpic now at the point guard position, Brampton will cause a lot of problems with defensive match ups on the offensive end. The X factor to this team, will be the play of lanky guard- forward, 6'0 Jalen Poyser. He has improved and is no doubt one of the top players at this age level. You can always look forward to this squad bringing they're A Game every time they step on the hardwood! Look for them to battle with YAAACE to obtain the #1 spot this season.
#3 - Can-Six
The Provincial Champs of the 2008 Season are on the rebound this year. They have a lot of components from last years Gold medalist, Gladiators(G-Squad). All that spells is...TALENT. With the most athletic player arguably at this age group, 6'2 Jordan Hamilton leading the way, the sky is the limit. Add 6'0 Jamal Reason, formerly of Scarborough Blues, 5'9 slasher Monta Gill back from a leg injury that sidelined him last year, and 6'2 Temar Robinson one of the most versatile players at this level, scoring won't be an issue. With floor general 5'4 speedsters, LJ Merced and Joel Clarke(Formerly Blessed Sacrament) controlling the tempo and on occasion, the best shooting guard at this level in Isiah Seetram(attending school in the U.S)and shooter Malik McDonald, this will make for an interesting season.
#4 - Toronto Triple Threat
Losing your most stellar player in Eric Rhiawire had Coach Norm Clarke, scratching his head all summer. But, having being a legend in the game, and the city in his backyard, it may look like he has recovered. Back are the usual suspects but a much improved trio. Sharp shooter Miles Seward, steady point guard Calvin Epistola and 6'2 Brody Clarke in tip top form, the Threat was just in need of a little boost! Incoming...guard-forward Russell Baker? Who? Well, this kid will turn some heads this year and gives Triple some much needed automatic O! With swing Dewan Williams and some other new additions TTT will be ready.
#5 - St. David's
The Blues are still in another transition year and will be trying to keep themselves in the elite bunch. Last years squad proved to come on late and had a decent finish in the end. Legendary Coach Enzo Spagnuolo, feels that his team will be much improved as they have the majority of there players back. With the addition of some new faces and size, it will be interesting to see how they fair. Devonte Campbell, the 6'2 forward dominated in the post last season but will have some help this year with the likes of 6'3 Athen Neale, 6'4 Keelan McConnell and 6'4 athletic center Chris Egi. They are most definitely bigger and with versatile guard/forward, Cody John over from Mississauga Monarchs and guards Gene Spagnuolo and Oshea Gairey in the rotation, things could look a little different. Scoring machine Alex Petronis will always come out attacking but defense is were this team will need to show and prove.
#6 - CIA/Bounce
The new addition to this age group, will be ready to compete this year as like all Bounce squads do. They will have all the components to be one of the elite teams in the OBA but, we can only see being it there first season at this age level, how they'll produce. 6'3 block shot king, Josh Baker(formerly G-Squad) will be the center point to this team with some help in the paint from 6'0 Daniel Nikitovic. Another former Gladiator, 3-pt specialist Michael Ganson will have a quick backcourt duo in Isiah Long and Jalen King to push and distribute, causing all the teams of above to stay on they're toes!
#7 - Motion
Another new name to this age group but the faces are familiar. Coach Heath took is Jamba Cats squad, last years Eastern Canadian Championship runner ups, over to the motion organization for reasons undisclosed. These boys will be ready to compete as the faired well in the provincials last year. The batman & robin duo of lanky point guard Jason McDonald and multi talented Brently Heath, will always keep this squad in the mix. A nice addition was point guard Micky Santos who is a solid floor general and will help this team be successful.
#8 - Scarborough Blues #1
Last years squad fell in and out of the elite group and had a pretty dismal finish to last season. Although they have lost some key components including long time Coach Marcus McDonald, fresh new faces with size, energy and athletism puts them back in the running. Lasts years assistant coach Karim Grant takes over the helm and has an old gem in underrated guard, Tyler Couchman. Picking up a gem in Tyronn King, a 5'8 scoring machine, will make this T&T connection be tough to defend. With some new additions such as last years scoring machine, Devon James(Durham Bulldog's#1 star player last season), 6'1 twin towers Malik Skeete, James Ergo and 5'9 Endrit(Andy)Fazliu from Vaughan Panthers, the Blues will be in a transition year but are not a push over.
#9 - Durham Bulldogs #2
The Bulldogs are a team that on any given night, can take down a sleeping giant. A well coached team, Coach Palmer as also added some strength and length with former Scarborough Blue forward, Spencer Thomas added to the mix. Look for 5'8 scoring sensation,Trevor Baptiste and 5'9 point guard Obi Okolie to have some more help scoring and with the improvement of the big fella, 6'2 Sheldon Fraser and some new additional size such as 6'1 Jahidi Tate, Durham is looking to turn heads.
#10 - Blessed Sacrament
Always an elite organization, and always in the mix, Blessed will have a disciplined nucleus to compete against all the above. One of the top guards in the province in Sheldon Mcintosh, and strong shooters to help in McArthur, the Yellow Jackets have the ability to sting u if your not on your A game. 6'3 big body, Adam Veung, will always bang but some size and help will be needed this year for them to really compete!
Honourable Mentions:

Mississauga Monarchs - Have the ability to pop in and out of the top 10. They will have some new face but will be centered around 6'4 Danylo Kostecki who improved over the off season.

Etobicoke Thunder - Coach Joe has improved his team, and after last years Division 2 Gold Medal, wants to compete with the elite. How could they not? Felix Frimpong ring a bell?

Vaughan Panthers - Don't have much on this squad, but I know Coach Anthony is always ready to compete. With solid coaching and Mr. Femi-Cole on the floor, they'll make things happen.

CKATT - With some strong guard play from former Can 6 point guard Richie Aragon, along with some solid size and a scoring from there guards, this new team at this age group will be scrapping to get in the Top 10 for sure!

KW Vipers - Always a disciplined team, and always with some talent, these guys will compete and be one of the better ones outside of the GTA.
This is your Major Bantam Pre-season Outlook on the top OBA teams, which most happen to represent the GTA! Look forward to an exciting season for all participants on the Road to London, ON!!!
